The grommets are too thick the Apple original grommets have flat sides, while these are bulbous like donuts this makes them fit uncomfortably and the plastic cage that holds the drive is distorted as a result.
MAC MINI HARD DRIVE UPGRADE LATE 2012 MAC
Changing one drive in a Mac Mini would only take 15 minutes, while adding a second takes 2 hours.ġ. Actually if doing it again I would probably just shell out for a larger capacity SSD harddrive and skip the whole 2 drives thing. Next time I would look for a little better kit. Basically the screws (like the set screw problem) are just regular pan head machine screws so they weren't really made for this use. I had to cut the rubber grommet in half with a razor blade to make them fit into the drive holder further. Second problem is that the screws for the outside of the drive holder are too large when screwed into the grommets so the drive won't seat tight against the back of the Mac Mini. The set screws are much smaller diameter than the ones with on the other drive so if I was using a mechanical harddrive I probably wouldn't have used them.

I needed to get them to the right depth by holding them up to the other drive and then use locktite to hold them in place and keep them from rattling. First, the set screws that 'hang' the harddrive in the grommets are too small to screw all the way into the drive holes.

I used this kit to add a second Solid State Harddrive to my Late 2012 Mac Mini.
